ANYBODY GOT SHOES???

HI EVERYBODY, A COUPLE OF US SEATTLE FLIGHT ATTENDANTS ARE WORKING ON A FLIGHT ATTENDANT DISPLAY FOR THE MUSEUM OF FLIGHT . WE ARE GOING TO LOAN OR DONATE SOME UNIFORM PIECES . WE HAVE NO SHOES.!! DOES ANYONE HAVE THE EVANS SHOES....WHO COULD FORGET THEM....OUCH !! OR THE PLAIN NAVY HIGH HEELS THAT WE WORE IN THE 60'S AND 70'S ??? IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING, LET ME KNOW....E MAIL IS GOOD. peggyverger@aol.com THANKS AND HUGS....PEG VERGER
.

1968 Old Uniform Shoes.....

If you flew in the late 60's, did you save those awful navy uniform shoes????? If you recall, they were the 'required shoe' that had the little silver buckle on it's toe and we all felt ruined our feet! If you still have a pair saved, would you consider either loaning them or donating them to the Museum of Flight? The museum is putting together a special display on "Style in the Aisle" early next year. Unfortunately, that's one item they don't have and would LOVE to have displayed with the uniform.
If you can help, please contact me or Annie Mejia at the Museum.
Thanks

Rich Villagracia's Retirement

Today was Rich Villagracia's last flight at United Airlines. He came in on UA 575 from Chicago with Susie Modica as Purser. At his request the passengers didn't know it was his retirement flight, but they sure knew when they got off.

A good group of friends and fellow Flight Attendants was waiting in the terminal with signs, leis, a "Mr. United" sash and flowers. The party continued with a nice dinner at Rich's favorite Chinese restaurant in Des Moines.

His tireless service to other Flight Attendants 24 hours a day has not gone unnoticed. His skills at dealing with everyone, from new hires to top management was second to none. He has been hired to be Inflight Manager for a large, private corporate flight department. We know he will excel.

Congratulations Rich!

MEL BROOKS

Hi Everyone!

Debi, Wendy and I all got the chance last month to go see Mel Brookes play, Young Frankenstein. It was playing at the Paramount. We met Mel at Emerald Downs on the day of the Longacres Mile and he invited us all to the show. It is now playing in NY. If you get out that way we all highly recommend seeing it! It was GREAT! 2008 Calendar

KathrynFlanagan
Happy Holidays

It is that time of year, again. I am ordering Calendars for 2008. I need to know if you are interested. If you are, I also need to pre-order them.

I will not be offering prints or cards. I am just running out of time. I will be ordering the calendars in the first of November and will have them to you by the middle of November.

If you would like to be included in the Pre-Order, would you please send me $20 per calendar? Please add $2 per calendar for shipping. If I am not mailing a calendar to you, please do not add the shipping.

This is my first and last notification. If I don’t hear from you now, I totally understand that you would like to be removed from the list.

This will be my last year of Calendars. I am going to be retiring soon and want to begin painting to sell and finding Galleries that love my work as much as you have these past 10 years.

Thank you again for supporting my little passion
Christmas Kisses, Kathryn

Great News

I just have to share with everyone the great news about my son Zach, as many of you know he has been on meth for the last five years, he has been through a few treatment centers and the only one that made a big impact on him was the Christain treatment center that he left after two months even though it is a six month commitment. He called on tues and said he wanted to go back to treatment, when we took him back they welcomed him with open arms and prayed with him, they are completly full so he has to sleep on the floor with four other men, but that's ok as he is in a safe envionment. Please keep Zach in your prayers, God Bless, Julie Hamilton

South End Luncheon Canceled

Well, apparently we will be canceling the luncheon for tomorrow, Thursday the 18th as well.  I guess everyone's lives are busy.
As of today, Wednesday there was only 8 people and that is simply not enough to hold the room in the back.
Perhaps, we will try for December.

Hi all from Judy Puckett

It's been a whirlwind year. They seem to go faster and faster (I now know what our parents meant). Last spring we went to Vegas with friends and to the Mariner's Spring Training in Arizona. There's a group of us (UAL) that gather and go together. Then I worked this summer again at Kenmore Airlines (the float plane company) at Lake Union. I'm sure they'll be hiring again next spring if any of you are interested! It's a very seasonal job.

In September I took off for Spain. My husband and I have traveled a lot in the past few years. We have cruised to Alaska, driven to Mexico to stay on the beach in Porto Penasco, stayed in villas in Italy, taken Barge trips in the canals of France, gone to Ireland for a friends wedding, but had never gone to Spain. I was very impressed. We spent 3 weeks touring and meeting up with our non-UAL friends. We hit Barcelona, Cordoba, Seville, spent a week at Marbella in a Villa on the Mediterranean, Granada and Madrid. We did day trips from our Villa to Gibraltar and Morocco. The only unpleasant thing that happened was it took 5 days for our luggage to catch up to us. Yes, we had a blast!

This month I am off with my UAL friends to spend a week in Maui. Next month it's Las Vegas to celebrate my twin sister's and my (big!) birthday. December it's off to Reno for a wedding.

My motto: Who know's what tomorrow may bring? Live life while you have your health. When we are older and can't travel on the long flights, we'll tour our good old US of A! Ciao! Judy Puckett

SeaBuds Chatter Use

Hi All. I wold like to share with you the progress in our Blog. The graph shows it all, The usage is up and the more it is Posted to the more we will all check it out, Making it a great place to ask and answer questions by Posting or Commenting. Got something to sell, Looking for or giving travel advice, Need a service? This can really become a great source for all of us by all of us. As you see it's on it's way. As seen so far we have been sharing our lives with our friends and I think that is the root purpose of the blog, But its uses and potential goes far beyond that. It is the tool with which we all can stay connected and share info no matter how trivial or important.
I just want to thank you all for giving it a go. It's EASY and from what I hear everyone that has either posted something or just checked it out loves it. If you click on the graph you will get a larger picture so it makes more sense.

Hello from Carolyn George

Hi Gang,
Steve and I just returned from a few days in Seattle. You may remember Susan Murphy? Well, her Dad passed away so we went out for the funeral. I met Susan's folks back in 1970 when we first started flying and we've been in close contact ever since. It's so hard saying good-bye to a dear old friend.
We stayed with Ron and Jack, and of course received the royal treatment. We were served sushi from Honolulu and fresh scones from London. Ron even packed a lunch for us for our return flight! And what did I do in return? I almost burned their place down! I decided to have a cup of tea but didn't realize the kettle was electric (duh) so put it on the high tech glass range top and left the room. Well, 5 minutes later, the kitchen was filled with smoke along with the acrid smell of burning plastic. What a mess. I was devastated of course. You have to know Ron and Jack's place to appreciate it. It is gorgeous, drop dead gorgeous, and everything is perfect. After 2 days the smell finally left the condo and Steve worked for an hour on the stove with a razor sharp knife. Miraculously it cleaned up and I didn't have to replace anything but the tea kettle! I had nightmares about the water sprinklers going off and the smoke alarms sounding and the kitchen burning and the entire building up in flames. What a lesson I learned. Think we'll be invited back?
It was mentioned in a blog that there is an airline collectibles show at the Museum of Flight on October 13. I attended one of those shows years ago and they are really fun. If anyone goes, will you please get me a business card or web address from someone there. I have airline memorabilia that I want to sell. I'd appreciate it - thanks. You can email me with the info. carolyngeorge@aol.com
In regard to this blog ~ I've heard lots of positive feedback about it, but also hear "I don't write anything because nothing is happening in my life." Hey folks! There is always something happening. We all want to hear what your kids are up to, your grandkids, your pets etc.....a blog should be like a continuing conversation. If you see something you are interested in, respond here. It's fun!
That's all for now!

Howdy

Okay Tom...will give this a try....and thanks for doing this...it will be so nice to hear what everybody has been up to!!!

Yes, can you believe that I actually MISS flying???!!! Of course, I am remembering the "good old days" of the 70's and 80's...I hear it has changed so much. I was not in a financial position to leave..however, I just couldn't stand the way we were being treated and it was creating such anger inside of me. How life has changed. I do keep in touch with a few current flight attendants and a few retirees. I continue to eat Sunrider Herb Grade Foods (havent missed a day since 1991)...if you are interested in them, feel free to contact me. I swear by them. It is a multi-marketing business. I also continue to have a massage practice in my home. I have been a practitioner since 1991 and absolutely love it. I charge $70 for an hour and $85 for 1 1/2 hour. There is nothing like a 1 1/2 hour massage if you havent experienced it!!! I also do massage on an on call basis for a Dr. Kim in Bellevue...I have been receiving accupuncture from him. Really havent felt any changes....and am not fond of the needles...Oh well....

I think the thing I miss most about flying are all of my flying partners and the fun and socialization we all shared!!! I live such a quiet life now....

I do keep in touch with Lynette Schurman. Spoke with her on Saturday. Please keep the cards and notes going to her!!! She is in a new facility (cheaper...insuranced didn't want to pay for the nicer place)...she now has a room by herself...  There are lots of old folks in this home too. Lynette spends her time in her room. She is still paralyzed on her left side and needs assistance doing practically everything. Her left leg is responding a bit...not her arm tho. She tries to remain positive and upbeat. Her cell phone is 360-970-7268. I know she would love to hear from everybody.

Anyhoo, not much to report. I live in Redmond....right by Microsoft....and, Lordie, the traffic is just awful. Altho, I went out to Monroe on Saturday and it isnt much better there either!!! I went there to see a clairvoyent....that was quite interesting...she is also a medical intuitive....I think I am going to live to be 100! Yikes.

So, please feel free to call anytime. My phone is 425-883-8418   and cell is   206-769-3898.  Also, Lynette's address is listed on Seabuds for any cards you want to send to her.   Hugs to all of you.

They just don't make airplanes like they used to!!!

Passenger rang her call button inflight and wondered if it was normal for her window to fall out!

Cute Little Elephant

Thought you might enjoy seeing my cute little elephant. This is Jaime's daughter, Scarlett, and she's about 16 months old.
I'm in Ellensburg right now, sitting in the pickup with my laptop because I can't get a signal inside the metal building. We moved the 5th wheel inside for the winter and we're getting ready to start the "adventure" of driving back to TX for the winter. We'll be pulling a tractor and riding lawnmower so it could be a challenge.
My plans didn't quite work out as anticipated this year. We had been in E'burg for about 3 weeks in the spring when my dad hurt his hip and was having trouble getting around. I flew to TX and stayed about 3 wks. During that time we saw four doctors. All of them said it was a soft tissue injury and even sent him to physical therapy. My brother came down for a week, (I went back to WA) and we found out that it was broken. I flew back to TX for the surgery and dad was doing great. A week later, he fell in the shower and broke his femur! It was a terrible fall and I had to call 911. They were wonderful! To make a long story shorter, he stayed in the hospital after his second surgery for almost a month and I just got back to E'burg last week. He's staying with my sister now, but as soon as we get there, he'll move back into our house. He lives with us and it's been great having him there to take care of things when we're gone, but I'm wondering now if he'll be able to stay by himself again. Makes me wonder why getting old has to be so difficult... He's scheduled for more surgery Oct. 29, but this time it's for his prostate.
I love this site and I'm so happy to see so many people participating! Good job, Tom!

Go SeaBuds Chatter Bloggers

Hello from Boise

Hi everyone, My husband, Dennis, and I are thinking of a New Zealand trip in January. Has anyone been there at that time? I think we get an ID90 on Air New Zealand. A back up would be to use UAL to SYD and ID90 from there to AUK. I believe January is summertime over there so don't know if Non-revving would be difficult. I would appreciate any input. Thanks, Sherry Neifert

Hello from Vicki Roy

UAL 'mouth piece' gets right cross

Subject: UAL "mouth piece" gets right cross

It might take a while to load the image to 100%, but then it replays
The is a video of UAL's "parrot mouthpiece Jean Medina" telling some retiree's wives (as she has told the press for a 1000 times from her Tilton instructions), UAL had to terminate the almost fully funded A-Plan, to survive. She added how much her stock option bonus check was. I would describe it as a "right cross combo overhead jab" to Medina's corporate brown nose..

Life is Good

Hello everyone!

First I want to thank Tom for setting up this nice site for all of us to stay in touch and share stories and pictures. It’s become a “must see” site for me nearly every day.

I’ve been retired now for 18 months and am enjoying it very much. As so many have said of their own retirements, mine is very busy and I wonder how I had time to go to work before. I do miss working with all of the fun Seattle flight attendants, and I definitely miss (really) sitting around in airports and watching the people go by while waiting for our next delayed departure.

I still get up early 5 days a week, and go either to the gym or out on the road with a workout partner. We’re training for the Seattle Marathon in November. I feel good but wish I could do it without so many aches. My Mom is now in a retirement home in Redmond, Emerald Heights, and it’s easy to see her regularly and go out for lunches and shopping.

If you’re looking for the perfect flight attendant retiree volunteer position, I’ve found it! Come to the Bellevue Blood Bank on Tuesday afternoons and you’ll find me there. I’m the juice and cookie person after you’ve given blood. It’s great. It’s like being on a 10 minute flight with interesting and nice people. There are so many fascinating stories of what brings people in and every time I’m there I have lots to share with David when I get home. Please come in. The entire process of giving usually takes less than an hour. Come save a life.

Julie Morrison and I still travel and hang out together. We went to New Zealand in May for 2 weeks of sightseeing and visiting with her son and his girlfriend. In November we’re planning a London trip. Generally we go to the cooler weather places, and David and I travel to the warmer vacations.

In September David and I went to Palm Springs for some nice sunny days after our cool summer here. We just returned from 5 days in the San Juan Islands with friends on a chartered boat out of Anacortes. This winter we’re planning a sailing trip in the Virgin Islands.

Tom, thanks again for this great site.

Carol Webster

Staying connected

What a fun way to stay connected and so simple. Tom has done all the work to make this possible and I appreciate it so much. I'm always taking my camera to work and adding to my album, they always ask are you retiring soon since you are taking the pictures, no I've done this for years and have so many wonderfull memories to look back on. My daughter Melissa is still flying (10 years) I always look for the LA layover so I can be with her for a short while or we combine a layover together, we recently were able to fly a trip to Denver together (way to early for me 6 am) but Denny said you might not get another chance! The boys are still writing their testimony, meaning they are living on the wrong side of the tracks, they are making some pretty bad choices and putting alot of grey hair on my head. Zach has been addicted to Meth for almost five years, awful awful drug! He has been thru six treatment centers (in patient and out) The newest one is in White Center, The Cross Church and Descipleship Church, absolutly amazing, it is a sixth month commitment. He totally changed into the Man of God he was prophesied to be, he was Baptized on mothers day. Denny and I just love the Church it is so full of men and women who have been down in the depths of Hell and have come back to lead a wonderful life. If anyone out there has anything they could donate to the treatment center like clothes, bedding, furniture etc. they can use it all, The Pastor and his wife have dedicated their life to this place in the middle of White Center and they are doing an amazing job for the homeless and the men and women in treatment. I'm sorry to say that Zach left after two months, for his girlfriend as she would not be involved with the church or treatment, he did fine for a few months and now he is back on meth........worse than ever! Please pray for him as his choices if he continues are going to be prison or death! For the many of you that know Denny and have bought your Toyota's from him (thank you) he is suffering the affects of that horrible agent orange from Viet Nam. He's diabetic and has had prostate cancer that they relate to the agent orange, he see's a varitey of Drs. to keep him on all the right meds. Well I'm going to sign off. Please have a Blessed day, Love Julie Hamilton

Joyce Eriksson

Hi everyone. Gunnar and I are still living in the Sacramento area and loving it. Our son Patrik is flying a Citation 500 ( small jet ) for Atkin Air out of Lincoln airport, near us. Since I retired I have been helping Gunnar with his handyman business....The Handy Swede.... they call me the handy chic. Hard work but I come home dirty from head to toe and smiling. Haven't missed a second of flying which surprised the heck out of me because I loved the job. We are traveling very little because I don't want to get on a frick'n airplane ( actually it's not the ariplane so much as the airport that bothers me) but we did make it home to Sweden this past June for midsummer celebrations and we are going to Puerto Vallarta the end of this month for some fishing ( Gunnar and Patrik ) and reading ( Joyce ). I love hearing through Seabuds what all of you are doing out there and it's a great way to keep in touch when something important happens to one of us. Thanks Tom for getting this format together. I'm enjoying my life and hope all of you are happy with yours too. Keep in touch and I will too. Joyce Eriksson

Hi from Hesse

Hi everyone

Hi from Kerry Messett

Hi from Kerry Messett. I've never blogged in my life so this will probably be short. Just wanted to say thank you to Jane B. for all her updates and Tom for starting the Seabuds (and jumpseat news I think). I'm still flying and for those of you who aren't you are missing out on.........NOTHING. The newest hassle is proving all the people who are part of your insurance and travel benefits really deserve them. I have to prove my 87 year old mother is really my mother among other stupid things. Ah the screw continues to turn. I looked at my passport recently and discovered it will expire right about the time I intent on not needing it any more, 2013. Hey gang, that's only 6 more years and you know how fast time is racing by. I've gotten so I want to leave my Christmas decorations up because it will be Christmas again before I can breath. Look how fast RET used to sneak up on you. Miss those of you who are having way too much fun not flying anymore. Yes, it's true, the 767 is going the way of the DC10 where nothing works anymore. Bye for now. Kerry

A Message From Jane

Hi Everyone, I have a few things to share with you so here goes::
I got an email from Lorrie Harry who shared some interesting things with me about her Mom, who recently passed away. One, is she was the 278th FA hired by UAL and also that she was roommates with Tom Deleo's mom after they both graduated from "stew school." Interesting tidbits - thank you Lorrie.
As you know last month 8 of us took the Alaskan Cruise and had a ball. Coyne and myself took a whale excursion and what a great time that was. We were amongst a large pod of humpback whales and then came upon a pod of Orca's. What a fabulous sight. We had great weather, good food, lots and lots of laughs, great entertainment, the casino was fun, and of course played lots of cards. Great time was had by all.
Now 6 of us, Terry Baird, Heike Cannon, Shari Pitt and her sister, Cathie Bieri and myself are going down to Cabo San Lucas on the 26th of Oct for a wk of R & R and cards, of course.
Then following that, the wk after Thanksgiving, Coyne, Shari, Cathie and myself will be going to Eur to start a 9 day cruise out of Barcelona, Sp on a brand new cruise ship. We end up in BOS so this will be the ships maiden voyage across the Atlantic. Excited about this one too.
In between all the above I've had my 2 self serve pet wash & groom parlors for 5 yrs now. And, knock on wood, we're doing well and have some good employees so I'm not working much, kind of as needed for now. And then there's my 5 month old grandson who is a joy and growing fast.
Hope everyone is doing well and keeping busy. I've noticed I'm busier cause it takes me so much longer to do things now than it used to. And then I squeeze in a chiro apptmt every once in awhile to keep me going. Getting older and adjusting. Take care Jane Bigelow

More on Coni Fitch

Today's Seattle Times 3/Oct/07 Has a Obituary that really expands on the life of Coni. I was amazed. I never knew she had such a passion for motorcycling. I guess I only knew her as someone that was really fun to work with. As I remember we mostly talked about water skiing which we both enjoyed. Click HERE for the Seattle Times article

Coni Fitch

I wanted to let you know there was a great obituary for Coni in the Sunday Seattle Times, with pic, and there is a Memorial Reception to celebrate her life this Thurs, Oct 4th, at 4 PM, at the Seattle Tennis Club, located at 922 McGilvra Blvd. East, in Seattle. Coni requested that any gifts or remembrances in her honor be sent to Swedish Hospital Medical Center at 747 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98114.
