Information for SA travel

My husband just got back from a trip to SEA. He told me that in SFO there was a monitor that showed weather info, baggage rules, etc., but he also said it showed a standby list. He was able to see part of his name (K. Say) and therefore knew he was on the list plus it showed the order of the SAs. UA is putting them in the hub locations right now, but plan to expand to other cities later. Here is the article I found on Skynet:

A key part of our five-year Customer Experience plan involves meeting Our Customer Commitment to provide more timely and relevant flight information. That effort got a big boost this month with the roll out of updated Gate Information Display systems called EasyInfo at our hubs in Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and the United Express terminal in Denver. · "With the new technology, our customers can now see at a glance the order in which their names appear on the upgrade list, as well as information about weather conditions at their destinations and en route," says Guy Zalel, project manager-Customer Experience Initiatives. "Customers also get a better idea of the probability of obtaining a seat when they're standing by, as do employees traveling for business or pleasure. The screens also display information about solicitation of seats in oversale situations and up-to-the minute notification of gate changes." · Helping customers make decisions about their next step in the boarding process -- for example, whether to wait for an upgrade or board when the seating area is called -- reduces routine customer inquiries and frees up customer service representatives for more complex service needs. · According to Los Angeles CSR David Tomb, EasyInfo "frees me from answering repeated questions about the upgrade list and allows me to manage the gate more effectively." · We also plan to expand the deployment beyond hub airports in the second half of 2008. · The rollout is the first step towards United's new "Green Light" airport concept, in which automation will ease our guests' passage through the airport environment with minimal interruption. It also brings us in line with the existing automation provided by our competitors and provides a platform from which we will eventually exceed what they have to offer. Longer-term project ideas we are exploring include checking in using a cell phone or other personal electronic devices and, eventually, completely document-less travel.

Great Recepies

A very good friend of ours who is involved in Alaska native culture added some stories and recopies in a local cultural website. I have been friends with this inspirational lady for over 50 years now.
I stayed with her family when I was just a boy visiting the town of Cordova Alaska where my father grew up. If you are interested in good food check out the Cordova Halibut. Also the garlic crab one of those special recipies I grew up with. Click HERE for a link to the recepies.
There is also some great reading throughout the website

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow....

We've been staying at our house in Bend, Oregon for the past few weeks.  As many of you know, my husband, Jerry's, theme song is "I am 16, going on 17...".  Well, last week he was skiing at Mt. Bachelor, going multi-miles-an-hour on one of the cruising runs, when all of a sudden he caught an edge and did a head-over-skis", very theatrical somersault.  His poles ended up buried 50' away.  His bindings were broken.  He looked like a pretzel!  So the ski patrol whisked him away to the hut where they discovered he'd gotten a hairline fracture of his clavicle (shoulder), a twisted ankle, torn calf muscles and "torqued" knee.  His left leg swelled up immensely and turned black (not black & blue, but black!) for about a week.  However, now that he's feeling better and had some PT, he's walking and using both arms pretty well.  The PT told him not to baby his arm or leg as movement will help him heel along with his exercises.  In the meantime, it's been a hugely record snow year there...just like here.  We've had about a foot a day.  Well, the PT didn't tell him to shovel snow...so I got to do that job!  I've never had to do it before and my praises to all the guys out there who have it as a gender requirement in bad weather!  I did it twice and went right out and bought a snow blower!!!  Well, now that Bend has gotten yet another 2' of snow, it's a lot more fun to go out and romp and play in!  I've included a pix of Bentley and myself in one of the heavy dumps we got overnight.  Stay warm and dry....we'll try to do the same.

Almost buried!

Yes, that was my Alex and yes I was there too. He was on the today show this morning..interview.
I will try to make a short story....but a lot happens (or is that shit happens) in a very short amount of time. We had a great ski day and decided to go home for one night since we had been at Alpental for a week . First , could not leave our place because an avalanche had closed the Alpental road. Finally cleared it out and we started down I 90. About a mile down I could see some snow coming off the cliffs on the right and all of a sudden we are engulfed in this white out, car swerving and spun around. When we came to a stop we could not tell if we were buried because we could not see out any window. Then I thought for sure someone would be crashing into us.They did not. I rolled the window down a couple inches and poked my fingers out...not buried. The car was sideways across the road and we were the only car around. A hundred yards up the road was a huge wall of snow. All I thought was the last car we passed is probably buried. We called 911, then called my daughter. State patrol showed up about a half hour later, drove up the west bound lane. We got in the 'perp' seats and he had to drive backwards down the road for about a mile. We sat there an hour, then Chris Williams (state patrol) said he could take us back to our condo and then come get us later when our car was dug and it was safe for us to drive it home. He called an hour of so later, sent a car to get us. By now I am wrung out and decided to stay at the condo ...so Alex went..when he got to our car there were several TV stations wanting an interview. Then at 3:00 this morning he had an interview with the Today Show. So, now I am stuck in the mountains because the pass is closesd...again! This has been quite a winter, which I love...but I am so thankful I am alive to enjoy it. I have skied at least 30 days so far with more to come! Sorry , I am sure you have heard more than you asked for!!! Hugs, Marg
