H. Clair Lilley March 31st, 1928-December 29th, 2011 Clair was born in Newton Kansas to Roger and Ethel Lilley. Clair's first love was flying airplanes, so as a teenager he worked at the local airport to earn enough money to pay for flying lessons. He graduated from Eldorado High School in 1946, and joined the military later that year. He was deployed to Japan and recalled for the Korean War. Upon his return he discovered his second love, and married Ruby Lee Schlesinger in 1949, and together they raised their son Roger Clair in Seattle, Washington. Clair pursued a successful career as an airline pilot for United Airlines, from which he retired as a captain in 1988. Upon his retirement, Clair devoted his time to family as well as some of his greatest pleasures, including travel, golf, and -most of all- fishing and tying flies. He spent many memorable days with his family at his cabin in the foothills of Mt. Adams gardening, hunting, and fishing. Clair had a unique ability to be both rational and creative, and will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, loyalty, and zest for life. His life was a journey traveled honorably and deliberately, and is peppered with triumph, adventure, and beloved family and friends. Clair was passionate and outspoken, often simultaneously. His favorite quote was; "never give up." Clair was preceded in death by Ruby, his wife of 50 years, who passed away in 2000. He is survived by his wife MaryLou Lilley, his son Roger, his granddaughter Carlee Tulett (Nathan), and three great-grandsons, Reid, Roger, and Finn. Pass Travel Update November 3, 2011

ALPA and the other unions are working to reestablish a working relationship with the company on pass travel issues. To be frank, the new management has no prior history of working with their employees in this manner. But so far I think we seem to be making progress on building trust.
We will be adding a Continental pilot to our ALPA Pass Travel Committee soon.
Online travel:
The integration of the two pass travel programs will not happen in early January. It will more likely happen sometime in March. A major determining factor is the date CO’s passenger reservation system migrates over to United.
This brings up a few questions, such as:
· When will UAL retirees lose their companion passes?
· When will UAL employees and retirees get to use vacation passes?
· And how will UAL employees and retirees use them?
· When will companions be able to travel on each others airlines?
The company said they will have answers to these questions and more very soon in a communication to our active and retired employees.
Leveling the playing field with Vacation Passes. At a recent meeting with the various unions, the company acknowledged the unfairness of the accumulation of vacation passes at CO, and no accumulation at UA. They said they would attempt to come up with a solution, and they hope to communicate that as well.
A note about Vacation Passes: The vacation passes accumulated to date by CO employees are not the same type of vacation passes that will be awarded in 2012.
The older generation of vacation passes that have been accumulated, unlike the new ones, are for one person per leg only.
As you know, the Vacation Passes to be allocated next year are good for as many legs as required to get from origin to destination, and are good for every eligible traveling together in your party.
Finally, the Company has told us that the name for Vacation Passes may be changed to a different title to avoid confusion about when they may be used (which is any time for any reason).
Companion Passes for Retirees: The Company has eliminated this benefit for our retirees and for us when we retire effective sometime next year (date to be announced by the company). The reasons could be summarized basically as – management doesn’t like them and they’re trying to find any reason they can to reduce their usage.
The Company suspects an unacceptable amount of revenue dilution – where there would be a number of companion pass users who would have purchased a ticket on United if it weren’t for the ability to use them. They also mentioned companion travelers clogging airports, fraud, and undesirable behavior on the part of some. When I mentioned that of all the groups, retirees tend to be the most mature and responsible, they did acknowledged that is likely to be true.
I’ve discussed these concerns with the company and made the observation that so far they haven’t presented any data to support their concerns , as they appear to be anecdotal or a gut feeling. While the company said they will not entertain any discussion of changes until the new program has been implemented and the dust has settled, they have agreed to discuss this later.
I’ve also told the company that finding a way to resolve their concerns about retiree companion passes and afford retired employees the option of using either companion passes or enrolled friends is a high priority for ALPA.
I was asked why it’s such a high priority and I replied that unlike many other employee groups, virtually all United pilots will retire, and it is an important benefit we would like for ourselves.
Web List will go away when the new pass travel program is implemented and be replaced by Continental’s employeeRes.

If you haven’t checked out employeeRes, you should try it sometime. It not only shows you the available seats , but allows you to view the stand by list, and also show the standbys who have actually checked in for the flight. When you inquire about a flight’s stand by list, it will show you where you would fit, even though you’re not listed.
You can also set up a very welcome and user friendly notification system to advise you of gate information, departure delays or cancellations for any of your listed flights now or in the future.
The stand by list and notification features that I described are not yet available for United flights on employeeRes (only Continental) until the integration, next year.
employeeRes can be found on the left side of the Flying Together page under Travel Tools.
Offline Travel:
Lots of good news here. A few years ago ALPA proposed to the Pass Travel Committee the concept of purchasing and refunding all offline tickets over the internet. This would avoid the cumbersome Kubuki dance of having to purchase paper back up tickets and then have the unused tickets mailed in or taken in for refunds. At our request, the company began looking at this concept about 18 months ago.
Concurrently, other airlines began looking at this idea as well. As a result, the airline community has decided that beginning March 31^st, all airlines will abandon the use of paper tickets – even for ZED travel.
Some airlines have already migrated over to e-ticketing for offline travel, such as British, Jet Blue, Hawaiian and Frontier. Every other airline will follow by the end of March.
United would like to have this internet capability in house or in conjunction with other airlines. But with our limited IT capabilities due to the merger, UA will probably sign on with a third-party vendor to provide this service as other airlines have done – at least for the foreseeable future. So the next time you need a back up ticket, it can be as quick and easy as a few taps on your phone.
The third party vendors charge a per-ticket fee for purchasing ($3-5) and for refunds. But with the widespread use of smart phones and tablets, it often will not be necessary to buy backup tickets until you actually need them. In those cases, you can go to your smart phone, list and purchase an offline ticket and then proceed to that airline’s gate. The need to refund backup tickets will drop dramatically.
ZED fares: Some good and some not so good news.
The good news. Virtually all of Continental’s interline agreements are ZED, as opposed to ID agreements. All of their ZED agreements will most likely become our agreements as well sometime next year. As a result we will acquire a few new airlines to travel on.
The bad news: The ZED fares increased 15-16% on October 1^st. This is clearly an unacceptable jump.
But I’m hopeful for some relief down the road. United will have a representative on the ZED fare committee who can have some influence over how these fares are computed. The fares are currently calculated as a percentage of an average fare for each distance category. That revenue fare is calculated by market forces – normally supply and demand, or whatever the market can bear.
There is no reason why our employees’ and retirees’ interline benefits need to be based on whatever the market can bear for revenue customers. After all, our ZED fares are an employee benefit, not a profit making venture.
I’m hopeful we will get support from United management on this change of focus on ZED fare calculations. I’ll keep you posted.

Insurance with Medicare

My husband is eligible for Medicare this summer and I was wondering what my friends at UA were doing after BCBS is no long the primary carrier. Are most people staying with BCBS, or have you found something better? I did find out that BCBS is not a supplement and will pay up to 80% of the covered expenses, but if Medicare pays 80%, BCBS will pay nothing unless the maximum has been reach.

Any help/suggestions you could give me would be appreciated!

found out something today that might help our fellow flt.attendant retirees. If they belong to the vision program...VSP under our medical plan they can now get their prescription filled at Costco at a greater savings than other VSP providers. BUT instead of your SSA# you give them your file number preceded by 3 zero's...it doesn't cover all UAL retiree groups but ..it does cover ours. My wife was the first at our Costco store and it did take some calls and research to finally get it cleared up...it was worth the discount.

Ray Dapp, retired United captain, passed away last Saturday, February 12th. Ray recently lost his wife, Jackie, and his daughter, Bonnie Jones, is at his home in Federal Way at the present time.

For those who knew Ray and would like to send a card addressed to Ray Dapp family, 3112 S.W. 300th Pl., Federal Way, Wash. 98023. I am sure his daughter, Bonnie and the rest of his family would like hearing from you.

I would see Ray at my post-retirement job at Metropolitan Market in Federal Way. He would always come to my checkstand and we would chat about UAL and all that stuff. He was such a nice, sweet man. I haven't seen Ray for a year since the store closed but found out about his heart attack and passing from his friend and neighbor who attends the same church as I do.

My husband just took a trip to SEA and UA was full, so I decided to try CO. I found the process a lot like ours, but when listing, they give much more info. This is an example:

I think the Upgradeable standby means revenue psgrs eligible to upgrade. He had a good trip, but took Southwest back. UA and CO were both full. By the way, retirees can call Benefits and request ID letters that are good for a year on Southwest. They will send you about 5, but it takes a couple of weeks to get them. The museum of flight has been contacted by a college student doing a final paper on "stewardesses" and the events that forced the airlines to eliminate the 'unmarried' clause from their hiring practices. the student, Mary Blanchard, is looking for any kind of documentation, like a copy of the paper we signed in the 60's that said we would not marry..or anything in the pamphlet that was sent to us during recruitment. the museum is unable to help her because all of the archives are in storage due to a remodel in their area...

her final paper would be greatly enhanced by anyone's recollections or personal stories of being terminated because they got married or any extra history that you might have.. if you have anything to share, her e mail address is blamry@comcast.net .

Wanted to share an email I received.Enrollment is through Nov.24th,2010. Anita DeLeo

We all recently received a letter from the Benefits Service Center (BSC) concerning making changes to our insurance coverage and advising our new premium amounts for 2011. Unfortunately the letter is poorly written and doesn't properly explain that they are announcing a major change to the way they handle our premium payments. The change is that starting now, they expect us to take action to change the premium amount on file with the BSC. In other words, they are advising us what the new premium amount is, and they expect us to turn around and contact them to put it in their payment schedule for next year. We can either call the BSC at 1-888-825-0188 and obtain a password to sign into the www.ualbenefits.com or simply ask the representative to make the changes for us. The website is not very user friendly, so I recommend having the representative make the premium changes for us, although you may encounter a long hold time of 30 minutes or more to get through. If you plan to change your coverage in any way, be sure to tell this to the representative.
Having the representative change the premium amount for you is a two-step process. First, the current 2010 premium will be given an end date of 12/31/10, and the representative will read a statement to you and ask you to indicate that you agree. This statement is a summary of your responsibilities, including being responsible for any bank fees resulting from insufficient funds situations that may arise. The 2nd step involves entering the 2011 premium amount along with a start date of 01/01/11. The representative will again refer the the statement of responsibilities and ask if you agree with it. This should wrap it up unless you are also changing your method of paying your premium (e.g., paying by automatic withdrawals from your checking account, changing banks, paying upon receipt of an invoice, etc.).
The website www.ualbenefits.com has had problems with certain pages not being able to be downloaded and not allowing changes to be made. The website does have a survey you can take on the open enrollment procedures and this would be a good opportunity to let them know how poorly this important change has been handled.
One question you're probably asking yourself is, what happens if I don't do any of this - will I lose my coverage? So far this has not been addressed by United, but it's probably best not to take a chance.
Also, please pass this information on to your friends, especially those who do not have computers.

Hi All,

I have heard from Kathy Brunig that there will be two surveys.The first will happen on October 26 in conjunction with Open Enrollment and pertain to Open Enrollment only. This survey will be on Skynet and most likely only include United employees and retirees. The second survey will be about Pass Travel Benefits and the date is unknown at this time but probably late October or early November. This survey will only be electronic and should be on the Fly Together page under Integration. This survey will be open to all employees and retirees of both United and Continental about 145,000 individuals. Kathy did not have any more details at this time but will keep us advised. She has contacted both Jim Sommerfield and Francis Domaratius to assist in getting the word out on the United side. Directors please keep your chapter Presidents advised of these developments. Kathy's department will be handling the survey...as she said the 20th is off unless some kind of miracle happens overnight. Stay tuned for further developments.

United/Continental management will conduct an electronic survey of current employees and retirees on October 20th. The survey will ask participants to rank the importance of various benefit issues. As far as we know, the only way for UAL employees or retirees to participate in the survey will be on SkyNet, and YOU MUST GO ONTO SKYNET TO PARTICIPATE. It will not come to you as an e-mail. We realize that this excludes a significant number of retirees who do not have/use computers.
At this time, there is no explanation as to why this is occurring on such short notice and by electronic means only. There may be other issues included in the survey. Contents have not been made available to your RUAEA representatives.
Please vote FOR United's boarding priority system, which retains your current boarding priority (retirees boarded before active employees).
RUAEA urges that we get everyone possible to take part in this survey. It will be a one-time opportunity. There are not many details available, but YOUR VOTE WILL BE CRITICAL.

Hans called us this morning (Sept 13, 2010) to tell us that she had passed during the night. He and Hospice had been caring for her at home. We will so miss her beautiful smile, her giving heart and her faithful friendship.

I'd put what year it is - only I forget. Anyway a little over a wk till the picnic - I've got my person who hasn't been in a few yrs to bring, so I hope you all bring a new face also. I'll settle for some old faces too!! Wed, Sept 8th, spaghetti feed at JoAnn Coulter's wonderful waterfront home.1954 Shore Ave, Freeland, WA 98249 at around 3:30 or 4 PM with eating planned for about 6 PM. BYOB.

The picnic, Thurs, Sept 9th, will be at Villa Luna, 6066 Moonrise Lane, Freeland, WA 98249, www.villa-luna.com . This gets going around 11 AM, pot luck, $10, and BYOB. I've already heard that the merchants will be bringing their wares for you to shop and there's always a lot of catching up to do with everyone.

I also need to tell you I just found out Jeanne Nielson has passed away from stage 4 cancer. I have no more info but will be getting more info shortly and will put it out for you then.

Also Glenna Garrett, has returned home from the hospital. She was going to have a bone marrow transplant with her sister, but developed an infection so it has been postponed.

I know life sure keeps us busy, especially at our age, but I'd sure like to see you take a day or two to say hi to some old friends at the picnic.

I thought some of you might enjoy reading about my recent London vacation with my family. I hadn't been abroad in several years so there was a lot to learn. Hopefully some of this may help you if you are heading over.

I was traveling with 4 other family members. My niece Laura 22, (enrolled friend) and her boyfriend Connor 23, as her 'companion'. My sister Patti (age n/a), and niece Sara 25, as my 'companions'. We flew on different days so as not to compete with each other! None of the 'kids' had been to Europe prior so this was a huge deal for everyone. (especially for me as the travel agent ~ LOL).

Hopefully you know this by now - we (employees) don't pay for checked baggage. Nice eh?

No problem getting to LHR, but trouble returning. Flights were full, full, full. LHR agents were brilliant and compassionate and helpful beyond words. There is currently an embargo on companions traveling solo to and from LHR, but they were allowing companions to split up just to get SA's out of there. (Keep that quiet) 3 of us spent one extra night in LHR at the Sheraton Heathrow for a rate of $219.10 total. That included $30 for an extra single bed in our dbl. room but it was comfy and roomy. We stored our bags at the airport for £8 per 24 hrs. It was so worth it. (The bags, not the hotel.) There is a £4 charge each way for the hotel car. This seems to be standard charge these days.

I had not been to LHR in a very long time and was so happy to see UA in Terminal One. (We were invited to use Business Class check-in - right on!). Shops and cafes are wonderful. However, the walk from the counter to your gate is long. We saw many elderly people struggling. As much as we wanted our Mom to be with us, there was no way she could have handled the airport. Especially having to reclaim our bags, hit customs & immigration again, store the bags, get to & from the hotel and back to get the bags to re-check them. YUCK. Pack light!

I have since discovered that Enrolled Friends, along with their companions, can travel on ZED fares on our Star Alliance partners. So if you must travel to LHR this summer, get yourself a back up ticket. Also, a friend mentioned this to me. If you are stuck in LHR, check the flights from BRU to the U.S. You can take a train to BRU for about $100. You would pay at least that in LHR departure tax. Just another option....

By the way, all 5 of us, on all segments, traveled Economy Plus. (Not by choice) These seats do have extra leg room and you get a free wine split with dinner. I was disappointed that my companions were not able to experience first or business class. But at least we got to sit together and that made the time go by quickly.

We used the Heathrow Express to get into central London and that is just amazing after all the long, sweaty, hot, broken down tube rides we used to take to and from the airport. It's a bit pricey but worth every £. It takes only 15 minutes from the airport to the city!

One expense that really added up was cab rides. If you don't mind stairs, escalators, hot temps, and crowds, then use the Tube. Get a day pass. You can come and go as you please - on busses too.

If you're looking for a really great place to eat try one of the Sofra restaurants. They are Turkish and fabulous. The owner, Huseyin, is a friend of mine. Tell him I sent you and all kinds of good things will happen. Check out his web site - his is an amazing story. www.ozer.co.uk

Another friend in London turned us on to the BEST theatre I have ever experienced. You must see War Horse. It's heading to Broadway next year and Spielberg is turning it into a film. I think my friend who is a theatre buff has seen it 9 times! I will definitely see it when it comes to Broadway.

I was able to visit my former church ~ St James's Piccadilly. It is in danger of being closed and they are desperate to gain funds to keep it going. The garden in the back is naked with none of the wonderful flowers and plants that I used to sit and gaze at. It's a Christopher Wren designed church and if you have the time, stop in and take a look. It's a very special place and who knows how long it will continue standing.

We had dinner at one of my favorite places - D'Marcos on Gloucester Rd. The casual atmosphere is wonderful and the food still terrific! Have the spinach pizza with the egg on top! There's a great pub across the street too.

One night, late, I took our group to Ronnie Scott's. It's a premier jazz club with 2 floors. I've always sat downstairs where it is very quiet and you come to listen. I thought it would be more fun for the 'kids' in our group to head upstairs ~ £5 at the door. It was a great time - a jam session with really hot jazz. We had a blast and my gorgeous niece Sara hooked up with a sax player (ohmygod - shades of Aunt Carolyn). So she stayed behind, much to my sister ~ her mother's, dismay! But she had a great time with some of the musicians who took her to Chinatown for Peking Duck. They drove her back to our B&B about 0300.

By this time I was ready to kill my sister. She kept jumping out of bed whenever a car approached. I was a bit nervous too but she had us both nuts. Sara is 25 and able to handle herself but still.....luckily it all worked out beautifully, even though we got very little sleep.

Regarding hotels in central London - expensive! But more importantly, none available! A few of us stayed with an acquaintance but my niece and her boyfriend needed a hotel. It was down to the wire before they found one and it was way too much money. Start your search early!

On our return we had to spend a night in IAD - at the Hilton. What a great hotel and good price for a room. It's been refurbished recently and I highly recommend it. Under $100.

We traveled British Rail to Cornwall for a family wedding. I booked first class because I am cranky in crowded seats and Connor is a HUGE dude. It was really wonderful to have the room and a table to lay out our picnic. It's about a 5 hour train ride and you see some beautiful countryside. I highly recommend it.

If you ever have the desire to see Cornwall (and you should!) you may consider my cousin's place to rent. It is a self-catered one bedroom flat attached to their home, and if you mention my name they would treat you like family. Their web site is www.ivorycottage.co.uk. You can take drives from their place to the most magical places ~ St. Ives, Truro, Newquay etc. My cousin and his wife will help guide you.

By the way, I had heard horror stories about airport security but we had no problem anywhere we went. Leaving LHR was a non event. We saw people walking through with their shoes & jackets on. I had a too large container of lens solution but they didn't even mention it. My niece forgot to pull her plastic bag out of her carry-on - no one noticed. Lines were short and TSA courteous.

So if you are traveling to LHR this summer - good luck, go with the flow and send me a postcard!

Just wanted to remind you of the Whidbey Island picnic and Spaghetti Feed. This year held on Wed., Sept. 8th and 9th.

The Spaghetti Feed will once again be hosted by JoAnn Coulter and Bill - this year we are gonna charge $1 apiece. This event was originally started when we had to go to the community center and set up, and it was to feed the workers. It has now become a much larger event and we need to support the hosts. Mary Ellen Lee passed away on Thursday, May 20th. She went peacefully, after a year and 1/2 of numerous treatments for her cancer.

As of now, Jennifer, her daughter, is unsure as to when a memorial may be, as there are relatives from out of town that would want to make the trip. It may not be for another month or so,

Jennifer is thinking of gathering memories of Mary Ellen from all of us. It would be appreciated if those having special times/thoughts about her, be passed on to Jennifer, so that she can do something with them for the memorial.

June Marx just called to tell me that she wouldn't be able to make it to the luncheon this year because she is going in for 8-hr. surgery to remove a cancerous bile duct on May 20th followed by a couple of days in critical care. She had gone in for gall bladder surgery a few weeks ago when it was detected. Hope everyone can send lots of positive thoughts June's way on the 20th. She will be in the hospital through the weekend for sure and I don't know how much longer after that.

Ron died quite suddenly Jan 28th...he was diagnosed with walking pneumonia...was home recovering...then I couldn't reach him..and within two weeks he was in a PDX hospital where he apparently had a heart attack...at least that's what I heard..I was in shock...we chatted all the time..it was all so fast!

Mary Ellen Lee Update

Mary Ellen was diagnosed with cancer Oct. 2008. She has spent the last year taking different chemos and some newer types of therapy for it, and has been in and out of the hospital many times during that period. The drugs are not working & though she could try more, she has decided not to do so.

The family has now gotten a 24 hour caretaker & Hospice is there for her. I visited today with her, and though she is now pretty much bedridden, she looked better than I'd seen in a long time and we had a good chat recalling our many years of adventures together

I know that she has many friends from work that are probably unaware of her illness, would like to know, and send her a card. Would you please put something on Seabuds to get the word out?

We have had this timeshare for 25 years and have gotten a lot of use out of it, but it's time to give it up. We know that these are tough economic times so we are willing to just give it away. Read on---

The timeshare is located in Boone, No. Carolina, a 2 hr drive north from Charlotte, in the hill country. It is absolutely beautiful with lots of recreational activities, tons of antique shops, and great food. There is a ton of stuff to do in this area. The timeshare itself is called Willow Valley. It's ours the 3rd wk of May. It is a 2 bdrm, 2 bath unit. There is golf, swimming pool, and workout area. The yearly maintenance fee is $425.00 which is due every Feb . Maybe there are 2 couples or friends out there who would like to go in together like Sandy and I did. It is also your option to join a trading company, like RCI, (additional fee) and trade your timeshare for another timeshare anywhere in the world. We've also done that alot.

Poland Adventrure by Suzanne

I just returned from a wonderful trip to Poland. I have wanted to do a pilgrimage and track the historical WWII trail of the Nazis and Soviets. And, since no one else had an interest, went by myself. I saw both Krakow and Warsaw and was amazed at how beautiful both cities were. The trip was made so easy by the fact that nearly everyone under 35 spoke wonderful English and everyone was very helpful. The train ride between the 2 cities took 3 hours and I did it twice. Auschwitz was a painful experience…yet I highly recommend it. Krakow was the only city in this country that was left intact by the Nazis. Warsaw was severely damaged no less than 4 times and it was left in 1944 totally leveled. The country of Poland is quite inexpensive and well worth the effort, if you’re inclined. I just want to let you know about Caryl Jones. She had a rather BIG accident in her yard and shattered her right shoulder. She is having surgery tomorrow, Tues., to have her shoulder replaced. Her shoulder was so messed up there was nothing to attach a pin or anything.

She has asked me and I am also asking you to NOT call her. She is in so much pain her sleep is totally disrupted as she only gets an hour here and there. Terry Miller will be looking after her when she comes home from the hospital. She is hoping to make the functions the following wk, spaghetti feed and picnic so please plan on seeing and talking to her then. She will have a yr of rehab to look forward to after her surgery. Karen Poland flew out of SEA Dom/shuttle was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on July 24th and passed away Aug 13th. The picnic starts about 11 AM or so, cause after all we need our beauty sleep. It's potluck and a $10 donation will be appreciated. You turn off the highway onto Double Bluff Rd. (for those of you heading north that would be to the left) Go to Lancaster and turn right and then Moonrise Lane. The web page has a map.

Now on Wed. Sept 9th, the tour of Georgia Gerber's bronze sculptures will be at noon to 1 PM. We can meet up at Ken's Korner at the intersection of the main highway and Cultuss Bay RD. Just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone about the upcoming Whidbey Island Picnic and Layover (for some).

This year on Wed, Sept 9th, the spaghetti feed will once again be at Heike Cannon's house. This event usually gets going about 3-4PM, just bring your favorite beverage. Her address is 1873 Brainers Rd, Freeland 98249. I won't include directions since you all have the capability of going to google maps. Her ph # is 360-730-1688. This yr, Sept 9th is also Medicare Day for Caryl Jones if you have anything you'd like to share with her.

We also are being given the opportunity to tour Georgia Gerber's home and garden. Georgia is a very well known Bronze sculptor, a couple of her works include the bronze pig at the Pike Place Mkt and in Langley the sculptor of the boy with his dog. She has a web site www.georgiagerber.com . This has been set up for 12 - 1PM on Wed, the 9th. I haven't been there but have heard it is a fabulous display of her work which is throughout her garden and home. We thought we'd meet at Ken's Korner in the parking lot, which is located on the main highway. There is a red light there and the cross road is Cultass & Langley Rd.

The picnic is once again being held at Villa Luna which is where we have been for the past 2 yrs. This is a pot luck, which starts around 11 AM on Thurs, Sept 10th. I haven't heard for sure but I think there will be shopping available, great food, and even greater comraderie in a fabulous setting. I look forward to seeing everyone again this yr and hope to get some new folks to attend. This event will have a $10 cover charge.

The villa is located off Double Bluff Rd.

I do know Caryl Jones has been setting up accommodations for many folks so you can relax, enjoy the events and spend some time with some good people. I'll send out another email about all this in a couple of wks. If you have any questions or comments please send them to me and I will do my best to answer you.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer. Here in Seattle, we've had a beautiful summer, except for that wk when we hit 103. That was nasty.

My life is settling down, I think I see a light at the end of the tunnel. I'd like to thank you for your cards and emails. I'm really looking forward to Terri Coyne arriving in town on Tues, the 18th, for 4 wks. Shortly after she arrives, Shari Pitt and Cathie Bieri will be arriving and you know there will be a game of cards, or two. I really need some R and R.

My Dad's Birthday

My Dad recently celebrated his 90th birthday. My sister-in-law put together a photo album of his life and each of us contributed some of our favorite photos of our families and special times spent with Dad. A long time ago, he took one of my trips to Washington, DC. He loved it, the crew was wonderful to him, and I'll always cherish that special trip/layover. We haven't changed much, have we? Could those glasses get any bigger?? :)

Greetings from Oregon.

Retirement is busy on this end too. We find ourselves dealing with those how-did-it-happen-to-me health issues, aging parents, children, money, and you-name-it! We are in the same boat, but count our blessings each day and find humor where we can. Here's the latest from the couple who celebrate 25 years of marriage in October:

Two months ago, Hal and I opened 'Birds and Be' in the historic Seven Gables Cottages in Lincoln City, OR. Hal's origami passion needed to directed outside our home as we were constantly stepping on paper birds and all the other creatures. This vintage bungalow is a small retail studio displaying origami wreaths, driftwood/manzanita sculptures and my vintage bird ephemera, felted handbags, books - all things relating to flora and fauna, emphasizing recycled, upcycled, reclaimed. Hal manages the shop while I run around with my camera and continue to volunteer at the North Lincoln County Historical Museum. My current project is a walking tour brochure for Taft, OR.
