The Word from Wood

Hey everybody,

It is me, Steph Wood, still flying...100 hours a month... I am too young to retire and too old to start over!!! So, I stay. If it weren't for the great people in SEA, it wouldn't be so easy. Most of us make it fun, which is really hard to do sometimes!! This summer sucked!!! With all the weather delays, cancellations and cranky people. But I keep plugging along. Both of my girls have graduated from high school, and are still living at home and working full time. They chose not to go to school, so they pay rent...the party is over.they are adults now. Woody is still out on occupational, and probably won't return to flying, it was 5 years in August. So, as you can see, my plate is pretty full. I have alot of stress and responsiblility, and I am coping, very well actually!!

I just want to share this product with all of you. I have been taking it for about 2 months now, and feel great. I am sleeping better than I ever have and wake up rested. I have put on weight over the past few years and this is helping me get back into working out, with more energy and endurance. In fact it passed the ConsumerLab.com's Athletic Banned Substance Screening Program. This program screens for over 170 substances based on the 2007 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List. Meaning athletes can take it for improved performance!

The product is called MaxGXL. What it does is stimulates the body's production of glutathione. Simply put, glutathione (GSH) is the body's master antioxidant. It is a small protien produced naturally in our cells when certain required elements are present. It functions both as an antioxidant and antitoxin and is a major defense system against illness and aging. Individuals who have low levels of glutathione are susceptible to chronic illness. Decreased levels of glutathione can be brought about by continual stress upon the immune system.

MaxGXL dramatically increases intercellular GSH. It provides the proper nutrients needed to promote the body's own ability to manufacture and absorb GSH. It also aids in liver support by destroying environmental toxins, thus helping the liver to function as the main production site and storehouse for GSH. It helps those that are stressed, aging, lacking sleep, or any prolonged illness. It strengthens your natural defenses, decreases your risk of illness and guards against the effects of the body's aging process.

If you are interested in trying it, I am selling it at cost. It is such an awesome product, I want everyone to try it and feel better. It is $66.00 for a month's supply. You can go to the website for more information and product ingredients. http://www.maxgxl.com/ Or call or email me. The attached article will really open your eyes as to what GSH can do!!

It is a multi-marketing company. Yes, I have signed up. However, I have never believed in a product like I do this one. It is almost too good to be true. If you try and decide you to continue to take it, you dont have to sign up and be involved, just sign up to buy your own product. It took me about 5 weeks to really feel something happening. It has to build up in your system. Unlike Amway or Market America, this is the only product this company sells!!

Hope to hear from you to try this product. As my job takes me to a place where the immune system is always being tested, I think this produst is ideal for crew members.

Thanks Steph Wood 253-835-0942 cell- 206-851-6401

Hello

Hey All , This is a first for me so I do hope that something gets sent. The only news of any importance for me is that I am going on sick leave for 3 months and having a total right hip replacement next week. Wish me luck. It will be nice to have a new part that works as it should. I will forever set off the metal detector, oh my. Take care, Jan Van Fredenberg

Hi Tom,

I don't get how this works. If I go to Blogger.com I must set up my own account? How do you get connected to the seabuds blog?
Maybe I failed to read some pertinent instructions. That's usually my problem.
You and Anita missed a great picnic. It was the best yet! The location was fabulous not to mention the home.
Hope you two are doing well. We're going over to Bess and Ron's for dinner on Monday.
Ciao, Karen

Hello From Colorado

Hi everyone,  Things are great in Colorado.  Sandy McFadden just came for a visit and it was great to see her----can't believe it's been 2 years since our last encounter!!  We went to Silverton one day to see the colors of the Aspen trees (it's a beautiful drive) and then one day went to Pagosa Hot Springs for a soak.  It was great.  Steve and I leave for Sedona next week to spend the whole month of October. When we come back to Colorado we have no travel plans until February when we make our annual Seattle trip to get our taxes done.  I will write another "blog" in December as I always do to fill you in on our past year.  That will be my annual Christmas letter to all my buddies in Seattle.  Talk to you then--Love, Andie Katres
PS to Linda Tanons----Oh my gosh Linda,  we went through something similar this year with my husbands mother---it was a nightmare!!  Good Luck to you!!

Hello from Vancouver

After much prodding from Tom, I have succumbed and am here with an update on my life.  Thank you Tom, for trying to keep our UAL family in tact, as we all appreciate your work and dedication to keeping us connected.

It is hard to believe that it has been 4 years since that historical date of June 30, 2007, when so many of us jumped ship from UAL.  Retirement has been an interesting road to travel, and I will admit that I still miss many of my "flying friends", as that was the benefit of all of those years.  I was grateful during the first 2 years of my retirement to be available for my parents, as they both passed away during that time, and I was glad to be with them, instead of on a layover in Tokyo.  After that, I received a call from Sue Schmidt (Shoup), asking if I was interested in a part-time job.  And so, for the past 2 years, I have been working for the Clark County Superior Court as a bailiff, which is someone who takes care of the jury from the start of the trial until the end of deliberation.  It is much like taking care of a group of passengers, with the same needs, questions, and concerns.  All in all, it has been a very educational experien ce, and one I wouldn't have had if I were still flying.

George and I have also traveled to England each year to visit his family, and attended a family wedding there this past August in Nottingham.  In December, we will take our first big cruise ship to Mexico for a week.  We decided that this is something we need to do in our lifetime, and we may both find that we hate being on a boat with 3,000 people.  I'll let you know.

Other than that, life is good, and thanks again, Tom, for making this "blog" a reality.  I hope it works, and I have now done my part.  It was easy, so I hope others will join the fun.

Love to all,

Natalie Cantrell

Hello from Hilo

Hello All,

Not sure if anyone remembers me. I was a HNL transplant when I came to Seattle nine years ago. And I am now "retired" (quit) from UAL as well.
It was time for me to return home and find a less stressful (physical) job. I am now selling mattresses and work half as hard but make twice as much. Not sure what I was waiting for.
I do miss my flying partners but not the job. I hope everyone is well and happy in whatever they are doing. I do think of you all fondly and feel like my time in Seattle was like an extended vacation where I made wonderful friends that I will never forget. It was truly a blessing to have been there.
I am back to the "local" ways and my pigeon (English) is back like I never left. I love the slow and relaxing lifestyle of Hilo and will never move again. Please visit if you are ever here (in the next rainiest place to Seattle).

Aloha and Love to All

Hello from Carolyn George

Hey Tom ~ We've always worked better under pressure!

Hey bloggers everywhere,
It really is nice to read what people are up to. I'm all the way over in Michigan and I love keeping in touch with everyone.
Here's my update:
I just attended my 40th year high school reunion and it was the best ever! We had so much fun and rewired old friendships. I was on the reunion committee and now that it's over we are all in withdrawal. We've promised to have monthly get-togethers at an old pizza haunt of ours. This has been an unexpected pleasure as I've been gone from here for so long and I've had no contact with anyone from high school. I even saw my high school love there. Boy he still looks good and is unhappily married (for the 2nd time). I think now he knows what he missed. HaHa.
Kathryn and Hal Fernandez just made a recent visit after they cruised the New England Islands. We had such a nice time with them. Hal of course left a string of origami all over my house and car. I found one in a plant today. My cat Lola has been hunting the little paper birdies down.
We've been taking frequent road trips into Canada to visit family and tour around. I grew up in Ontario, Canada and had forgotten how beautiful and rich the land is. We sailed on Lake Huron a couple weeks ago and attended a Blues Festival at Port Credit on the North side of Lake Ontario. We talk often of moving back to Canada. The politics seem so much simpler. But I guess we shouldn't discuss politics here, eh?
I've been in remission for over 3 years now and plan to continue on that path. Other than occasional fibromyalgia flare ups, I'm doing great. I still partake in Gilda's Club activities and support groups and offer my assistance when possible. A former classmate from high school is in treatment now for non-Hodgkins lymphoma, (my diagnosis too). I'm so happy and lucky to help her through this rough time. One never knows where the blessings will come from.
I'm still a music nut and Steve and I see lots of live performances. Next up is Neil Young. Obviously Detroit is music city so there are plenty of opportunities to hear great stuff.
Haven't been flying around much these days. Too much hassle - who needs it. I did head down to FLL last month to see Michelle Fanning and that was really fun. I was based in MIA/FLL a long time ago and never really liked it there but I sure do love to visit.
Well, I've rattled on enough. Hope I didn't bore y'all. Take care!

my update

Hi everyone...still (sort of) flying out of SEA.  I seem to take more time off with wop, loa's and onsl than I spend at work, but it works for me.  I'm still looking for a way out of this mess, and not succeeding.  I have two part-time jobs on Whidbey, one at Island Tea Company, islandteacompany.com,  and one at The Chef's Pantry, chefspantryonline.com   And, when I have to, I fly.  My oldest daughter, Amy, has moved back home with her two boys, Sabastian (7) and Nathanial (19 months).  They keep me hopping, I must say.  My brother is also living with us, and my parents, (some of you might remember my dad, retired SEA DC-10 Capt. Dave Dowsley), just bought a place about 2.5 miles from my home on Whidbey.  They finally sold their place in eastern Washington and have almost completed the move.  Dad is still grumbling and whining about the moe, but what the heck...Mom is happy.  As for my hubby & I, he quit selling tools and is now installing septic systems and doing dirt work on the island.  His company is called DirtMovers and he is in partnership with my brother.  For those of you that remember me more for my attachment to cats, well, you will be surprised to learn that my menagerie is now down to one cat.  My brother has three, so we still have a population going, but they aren't all mine anymore.  Whatever will happen to my reputation and desire to die and be remembered as that crazy lady with all of the cats?  My youngest daughter is still married and living in Fort Worth, TX and has a baby girl who turns one on Oct. 16.  We are currently in the depths of a huge remodel on our house...and then we are selling it.  Isn't that always the way?  We have purchased land further north on the island, by Greenbank.  All told. we have two parcels that equal 15 acres.  We plan to build a green home and put in an orchard, have a few chickens, goats and pigs.  Just call me farmer Jane.  My body is falling apart, but somehow I'm going to tackle this next project.

That about sums up all that is happening in my world.  It seems kind of odd that it takes up so much of my time, but takes so little to write it all down here!  Hope this finds everyone well...Andrea Strickland

Heads up!

This may take a bit of a read so get the coffee or glass of wine. Our mother died in September 2003 (she was 79) she and Dad had a cleaning lady and our Mom had a hairdresser come to house as she was incapable to get out. Now the story begins, there are three of us girls I am the oldest. We didn’t think any thing of it when Dad continued to have the cleaning lady come or the hairdresser for that matter she would cut his hair do his nails etc. Actually check on him or so we thought.... Until this April 2007 I get a call from Dad and he is upset he tells me and I quote “they want me to get a reverse mortgage on the house and I don’t want to do that” Well all three of us scurry over to see what in heavens is going on. Dad has great retirement income ( WW 2 vet) etc and the house is paid for....now the story really gets interesting and shocking.... for the first time our father lets us look at the bank statements etc . Hold on to your hat.... here it comes.... 3 months after our mother died our father changed his will.... the cleaning lady and the hairdresser were made power of attorneys, executors of his will, and are you ready.... yup they are on his will. Now it even gets better our father was overdrawn at the bank in January 2007 by $900.00. Oh yes and the checks we found were made out to the cleaning lady and the hairdresser. My sisters and I have documented that in the 3 years they have withdrawn over $330,000.00 from savings and income. Systematically every month since January 2004. Oops!!!! We have a problem here. Can we get the money back nope can we stop them from doing it to someone else maybe. (The bank manager hopes so) Since then our father passed away July 29.... 2 months before that we were able to change the power of attorney over to us but never got the will changed and now you guess the rest and the mess that is going on. So my advice to all of you if your parents tell you they are doing fine make sure make damn sure. Do not wait for a wake up call like we got. This more of a layover story than a jump seat story.... pour that extra glass of wine and check on Mom and Dad ... hugs to you all Linda Tanons

HI, this is from Linda Couser

It's been a long year battling breast cancer.  I feel as though as soon as I complete one thing, there is another course of treatments waiting for me.  I've been very lucky and blessed to be in Seattle where the treatment is excellent and "cutting edge."  Now they want to test a cyst found on my thyroid.  I think they should stop looking around and fix what I came in for!  I'm over half way through radiation, done with 24 weeks of chemo, lost my red hair and I'm taking herceptin every 3 weeks for a year.  I've had the mastectomy and thought I wouldn't need radiation after that but they found a "tiny spot" and so every day I'm under the big machine.  When all this is over, I'll wait 6 weeks and get a new chest.  Whoopee!   Dick D., my dear friend and I have looked on Whidbey for land to buy and build on in a couple of years.  We've found beautiful places but we need something with no CC&R's for his ham radio tower.  Any suggestions, gratefully accepted.  Overall, I feel great, expect to be around a long time and know that I'm lucky and blessed.

want this to work too

Thanks Tom for trying to keep us all up to date.  I just got back home from helping with the food drive down here at Jubilee.  It is hard to believe I've been here 10 months now and just love it.  Last night some of my neighbours and I met out on our cul de sac and howled at the full moon.  We laughed so hard that we may have to make it a recurring event.
When we all retired it seemed like 62 was far off .  Well, I've filled out my social security stuff and will be starting receiving SS in Dec.  gadzooks, how did this happen.  Judy Merrell

Lynette update.....

Hi everyone!

.... I saw Lynette on 9-16, and also 'chatted' with her on 9-22. Happily, progress is being made, particularly with her left leg and foot. Lynette mentioned that she had walked 100+ steps with her cane! Her left arm & hand still needs to 'start cooperating'. She continues to work on movement and has had some response which delights her, as well as her therapists. Lynette has a 'can do' positive attitude, which absolutley is helping her progress. She also is so appreciative of everyone's cards, calls, and visits .... it's really helped her a lot. (BE SURE TO CONTINUE ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT.... she still needs it!)
One additional item, Lynette mentioned that she expected to be moving into a new Rehab Facility. It seems BCBS doesn't want to continue paying for her rehabilitation in her present facility.
They say it's too expensive!!!! (typical insurance company attitude)
She expected to move today, 9-26, however I'm still unsure just where. Her family has been checking out other places which BCBS would 'ok', and a decision hadn't yet been made when we spoke. I'll post her new location after she's been moved. In the mean time, she loves calls, so continue using her cell number at
360-970-7268.

Message from Seabuds

Hello All
First I would like to thank everyone for the response from my email earlier this week. This was the first time in a long time that I felt I was making some progress with my vision of SeaBuds by getting the group as a whole on board sharing information with the blog. Also it was a good way of checking your email addresses I have on my own computer's email address book. The bad news was there were a lot of emails returned to me as undeliverable. The great news was I was able to get the correct one from the SeaBuds Address Book. Thanks for keeping that updated. I guess it's working.
On a Sad note I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Lorrie Harry's mother. I know at this stage of life a lot of us have gone thru this. And can more than appreciate her grief.
I never knew her mother, But my mother did as they were roommates in the early days of United. Yes Lorrie and I are flight attendant brats! Small world. My thoughts and prayers go out to Lorrie and her family.
Remember we are all a special family and I hope we continue to stay in touch and support each other with the help of SeaBuds

Blog Posting

Hi! Can you believe that I am getting ready to celebrate my daughter, Nicole's, 30th birthday? She choose a trip to New York as her gift. Can anybody help me out with ideas for hotel accommodations? I would really appreciate it!

Blog Response

Hey Tom I know I and everyone I talk to has been to Seabuds and loves it but I think you give us more credit when it comes to computers than we deserve. I, personally, do not know what a blog is or how to use it. I can only guess it's a personal web page?? Am I right?? So bear with us and try to educate us old dogs to learn some new tricks and then we have to remember those new tricks when we aren't on the computer everyday. Passwords alone drive me crazy and then what password goes to where. I have my lists and they can still be wrong.
I'll send you my emails if you like and use this here blogger address??? But hey Tom I forgot my Seabuds password -- HELP!!! Jane Bigelow

Unique Gift

My sister has two cats and one day they left this "gift" for her at the back door. How thoughtful! They even tied it in a bow!

Spirit of Washington Train

For those of you who may be winding down the summer with some out of town guests and are thinking of taking the Spirit of Washington dinner/lunch/brunch train, my recommendation is don't. They have had to switch to a temporary route until next summer and the new route leaves a lot to be desired. It now leaves from Tacoma, goes through several mobile home parks, run down neighborhoods where aspiring grafitti artists have been busy, and winds up at a mildly scenic lake out by Graham. Then you get to look at the same thing on the return trip. No where in their literature or web site do they mention this is a temporary route. We were using a gift certificate, and had we known that another route would be available next summer, we would have postponed our trip. The food was decent but not outstanding. Next summer it will be leaving and returning from the Ste. Michelle winery in Woodinville so should be a lot better experience.
Just thought I'd tell you of our experience in case you are considering the trip.

Tom, now we are really in the 21st century....I am still trying to get my husband to use his cell phone I think he is stuck back in the 19th century. J Thanks Linda Couser

Sep South End Luncheon Cancled

It appears we will need to cancel the luncheon for September 20th.  Only 11 people have signed up and we need 25 to have the private room in the back.
I will email the people on the list.  Maybe, you could make an adjustment to mention that those wanting to get together on their own - great.  I am sure that the restaurant will not have a problem seating 10 or so people.
I thought that we could adjust the date to next month, October 18th, and see how that goes.  Perhaps, we will get more people to sign up then.  I think September is a busy month for most and we did have those two separate get togethers at the beginning of the month.
Thanks.
Respectfully,
Jan M. Loomis

Whidbey 2007

I wanted to take a minute to send you this important email so friends can send cards or call or visit. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Lynette.
I also want to say what a fabulous time was had by all who attended the activities on Whidbey. The spaghetti feed, held at Carol MeGee's horse ranch, was wonderful. She has a 5 wk old colt that is soooo cute plus 26 other horses, and chickens were running around all over. We had about 40 people eating spaghetti and ckng out the ranch. What a great time was had by all. Thank you Carol for your fabulous hospitality.
Then there was our day at Villa-Luna. What a beautiful home this is and the weather cooperated to make it a perfect day. Hopefully someone will send some pics to Tom to post, especially the group pic which for some reason wasn't taken with my camera!! This setting is so spectacular, the gardens were beautiful not to mention the house itself. We had a fabulous attendance with some new folks who had never been before and will definitely return next year, which Terry Van Horn has graciously offered to us for next year so if you missed out you can come next year. Of course the food table was a sight to behold, and was so good. We even managed to get some shopping in. It is always so great to see everyone enjoying themselves so much. So many smiles, hugs, and laughs. Mark your calendar for next year, it's truly worth the effort to come to the island.

Well tomorrow, Shari Pitt, Cathie Bieri, Terry Baird, Heike Cannon, Johnie Nicholson, Geri Nelson, Terri Coyne (my roomie) and myself take off for a 1 wk Alaska Cruise. We're so excited.
Hope you're all doing well - take care Jane

Come Onboard the SeaBuds Blog

Hi Everyone As you know I created http://www.seabuds.com/ for you. Thru your generous contributions. The cost to me has only been time and that time has more than paid for itself in the learning experience. I have tried over the years to encourage participation by all of you. I got Judy Merrell involved in posting the day to day stuff with Judy's Scoop. But that seems to have dried up. Then I tried getting people involved by creating a FORUM. That was a little tricky "another learning experience". Since then technology has come a long way. Now we have THE BLOG. I know you all have heard of Blogging (web LOG) it can't get much simpler than this. Infact it's so simple you can just send an email to the SeaBuds Blog and it will post for all to see and comment on. (send me and eamil and I will give you the email addres to do this) Very Cool. To take it a step further I can create an account for you so you can Post, Edit or Delete YOUR posts you can even add pictures very simply. As we come in contact.
